Karl Zöllner was a German composer and conductor who lived from 1800 to 1860. He was born in the town of Wittenberg, which was then part of the Kingdom of Prussia. Zöllner showed an early interest in music and began studying the piano and violin at a young age. He later studied composition with the renowned composer Carl Friedrich Zelter. Zöllner's early career was focused on conducting. He served as the music director of the city of Dessau from 1824 to 1830, and then moved to Berlin to become the conductor of the Royal Opera. One of his most famous works is his opera "Der Wildschütz," which premiered in 1842 and was a great success.
