Robert Springer was born on May 12, 1950, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a professional pianist and his mother a singer. From a young age, Springer showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the piano at the age of four. As a child, Springer was exposed to a wide range of musical genres, but he was particularly drawn to classical music. He began studying the piano seriously at the age of eight, and by the time he was a teenager, he was already performing in public. Springer attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher Rosina Lhévinne. He also studied with other notable teachers, including Adele Marcus and Sascha Gorodnitzki. After completing his studies at Juilliard, Springer embarked on a career as a concert pianist. One of Springer's early career highlights was his performance at the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow in 1974.
