Eric Grossman was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a professional pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Grossman showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the piano at the age of four. Grossman's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue music seriously. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly progressed, mastering the works of Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart by the age of eight. He also showed an interest in composing his own music, and his parents encouraged him to explore this passion. At the age of ten, Grossman was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he studied with renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky. He continued to excel in his studies, winning numerous competitions and awards, including the Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition and the New York State Music Teachers Association Piano Competition. Grossman's talent and dedication to music led him to pursue a career as a concert pianist. He attended the Juilliard School for his undergraduate degree, studying with Robert McDonald and Jerome Lowenthal. He also studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he earned his Master of Music degree. Throughout his studies, Grossman continued to win awards and accolades for his performances. He was a finalist in the 2007 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and won the 2008 Hilton Head International Piano Competition. He also performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and the Cleveland Orchestra. Grossman's performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. He was known for his ability to bring out the nuances and subtleties of the music, creating a powerful and moving experience for his audiences. In addition to his performances as a soloist, Grossman was also an active chamber musician. He performed with numerous ensembles, including the Jupiter String Quartet and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He also collaborated with other musicians, including violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Grossman's dedication to music extended beyond his performances. He was also a passionate educator, teaching master classes and workshops around the world. He was a faculty member at the Peabody Institute and the Manhattan School of Music, and he also taught at the Aspen Music Festival and School. Tragically, Grossman's promising career was cut short when he passed away in a car accident on December 26, 2011, at the age of 26. His death was a devastating loss to the music world, and he was mourned by his colleagues, students, and fans around the world.
