Ensemble Interface is a contemporary classical music ensemble based in Frankfurt, Germany. The ensemble was founded in 2009 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for exploring new and experimental music. The founding members of the ensemble were flutist Eva Furrer, clarinetist Shizuyo Oka, pianist Yukiko Sugawara, percussionist Christian Dierstein, and cellist Eva Boesch. The ensemble's name, Interface, reflects their mission to create a space where different musical traditions and styles can come together and interact. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by contemporary composers from around the world, as well as new pieces commissioned specifically for the ensemble. One of the highlights of Ensemble Interface's early career was their participation in the 2010 Darmstadt International Summer Course for New Music. This prestigious festival is a gathering place for composers, performers, and musicologists from around the world who are interested in exploring new and experimental music. Ensemble Interface's performances at the festival were well-received, and they were invited back to perform at subsequent festivals. Since their founding, Ensemble Interface has performed at numerous festivals and concert series throughout Europe and Asia. They have collaborated with a wide range of composers, including Helmut Lachenmann, Rebecca Saunders, and Georg Friedrich Haas. The ensemble has also worked with visual artists, dancers, and other performers to create interdisciplinary performances that push the boundaries of traditional concert formats. In addition to their performances, Ensemble Interface is committed to education and outreach. They regularly give workshops and masterclasses for young musicians, and they have developed educational programs for schools and community organizations. The ensemble also runs a residency program for emerging composers, providing them with the opportunity to work closely with the ensemble and have their music performed in concert. Ensemble Interface has received numerous awards and accolades for their work. In 2012, they were awarded the prestigious Kranichstein Music Prize at the Darmstadt International Summer Course for New Music. The prize is awarded to outstanding performers and ensembles who have made significant contributions to the field of contemporary music. In 2015, Ensemble Interface was awarded the German Record Critics' Award for their album "Interface: Neue Musik aus Japan," which features works by Japanese composers. Ensemble Interface's commitment to exploring new and experimental music has made them one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in the contemporary classical music scene. Their performances and recordings have earned them critical acclaim and a dedicated following of fans and supporters. As they continue to push the boundaries of traditional concert formats and explore new musical territories, Ensemble Interface is sure to remain a leading force in the world of contemporary classical music.
