Rob Fisher was born on August 9, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in a musical family, with his father being a jazz pianist and his mother a singer. Fisher began playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. Fisher attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he studied music and played in various ensembles. After graduating, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in music. In the early 1980s, Fisher became the musical director for the Broadway production of "Little Shop of Horrors." The show was a huge success and Fisher's work was praised by critics and audiences alike. He went on to work on several other Broadway productions, including "Jerome Robbins' Broadway," "The Will Rogers Follies," and "Chicago." In addition to his work on Broadway, Fisher also conducted several major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Pops, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He was known for his ability to bring a fresh perspective to classical music and make it accessible to a wider audience. One of Fisher's most notable performances was at the 1992 Tony Awards, where he conducted a medley of songs from various Broadway shows. The performance was a huge hit and helped to showcase Fisher's talents to a wider audience. Fisher also had a successful career as a recording artist, releasing several albums of classical and popular music. He collaborated with many well-known artists, including Plácido Domingo, Yo-Yo Ma, and Wynton Marsalis. Throughout his career, Fisher received numerous awards and accolades for his work in music. He won three Emmy Awards for his work on television specials, as well as a Grammy Award for his album "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma!" He was also inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2017. Sadly, Fisher passed away on August 25, 2018, at the age of 67. He left behind a legacy as one of the most talented and innovative musicians of his generation. His contributions to classical and popular music will continue to be celebrated for years to come.
