The Messiah College Wind Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1972 at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. The ensemble is made up of approximately 50 student musicians who are selected through an audition process. The ensemble is directed by Dr. Bradley Genevro, who has been the director since 2003. The Messiah College Wind Ensemble has a rich history of performances and awards. The ensemble has performed at numerous venues throughout the United States, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and Carnegie Hall in New York City. The ensemble has also performed internationally, including performances in China, South Korea, and Europe. One of the highlights of the Messiah College Wind Ensemble's performances was their performance at the 2009 College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) National Conference in Austin, Texas. The ensemble was one of only six ensembles selected to perform at the conference, which is a prestigious honor in the world of college wind ensembles. The Messiah College Wind Ensemble has also received numerous awards and recognitions for their performances. In 2011, the ensemble was awarded the John Philip Sousa Foundation's Sudler Flag of Honor, which is given to outstanding college and university marching bands and wind ensembles. The ensemble was the first college wind ensemble in Pennsylvania to receive this honor. In addition to their performances and awards, the Messiah College Wind Ensemble is also committed to community outreach and education. The ensemble regularly performs at local schools and community events, and they also host an annual Wind Band Conducting Symposium, which provides an opportunity for music educators to learn from and work with the ensemble's director and members. The Messiah College Wind Ensemble's repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, including works by composers such as Gustav Holst, John Williams, and Johann Sebastian Bach. The ensemble also regularly commissions new works from contemporary composers, which allows them to contribute to the development of new music for wind ensembles.
