Walter Greatorex was a British composer, organist, and music educator who lived from 1877 to 1949. He was born in Liverpool, England, and showed an early interest in music. He began his musical education at the Liverpool Institute High School for Boys, where he studied under the guidance of the school's music director, Charles Hylton Stewart. Greatorex went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London, where he was a student of Charles Villiers Stanford. Greatorex's early career was focused on music education. He served as the organist and choirmaster at several churches in London, including St. Mary's Church in Kilburn and St. John's Church in Hampstead. He also taught music at several schools, including the City of London School for Boys and the Royal Academy of Music. Greatorex's compositions were primarily focused on choral music.
