Role:EnsemblePeriod:BaroqueModernGenre:ChoralConcertoEmmanuel Music Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Boston, Massachusetts. The ensemble was founded in 1970 by Craig Smith, a conductor and harpsichordist, and a group of musicians who shared his passion for Baroque and Classical music. The ensemble is named after Emmanuel Church, where it was first established as the resident ensemble. The main members of Emmanuel Music Orchestra are a group of highly skilled musicians who specialize in Baroque and Classical music. The ensemble has a core group of instrumentalists and vocalists who perform regularly, as well as a rotating roster of guest musicians and soloists. Some of the main members of the ensemble include John Harbison, a composer and conductor who has served as the Artistic Director of Emmanuel Music since 2008, and Ryan Turner, a conductor and tenor who has served as the Music Director of the ensemble since 2018. Emmanuel Music Orchestra has a rich history of major performances and awards. One of the ensemble's most notable achievements was its performance of Bach's complete sacred cantatas, which took place over a period of five years from 1970 to 1975. This ambitious project was the first of its kind in the United States and helped to establish Emmanuel Music as a leading interpreter of Bach's music. In addition to its performances of Bach's cantatas, Emmanuel Music Orchestra has also been recognized for its performances of other Baroque and Classical works. The ensemble has received numerous awards and accolades over the years, including a Grammy nomination for its recording of Bach's Mass in B Minor in 2000. Emmanuel Music Orchestra has also collaborated with a number of renowned soloists and conductors over the years. Some of the ensemble's most notable collaborations include performances with mezzo-soprano Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, who was a frequent guest artist with the ensemble until her untimely death in 2006, and conductor Sir Simon Rattle, who conducted the ensemble in a performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion in 2016. In addition to its performances, Emmanuel Music Orchestra is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble offers a number of educational programs for students of all ages, including workshops, masterclasses, and performances in schools and community centers throughout the Boston area. Overall, Emmanuel Music Orchestra is a highly respected and accomplished ensemble that has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. With its commitment to excellence, innovation, and education, the ensemble is sure to continue to inspire and delight audiences for many years to come.More....
