Matilde Wallevik is a Norwegian classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a pianist and composer. Born on May 22, 1995, in Bergen, Norway, Matilde showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Her parents, both musicians, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue her passion for music. Matilde's musical education began at the Bergen Music School, where she studied piano under the guidance of Professor Einar Steen-Nøkleberg. She later went on to study at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, where she received her Bachelor's degree in piano performance. During her time at the institute, Matilde also studied composition under the tutelage of Professor Henrik Hellstenius. Matilde's talent as a pianist was evident from an early age, and she quickly gained recognition for her exceptional skills. In 2011, she won first prize in the Norwegian National Piano Competition for Young Musicians, and in 2013, she was awarded the prestigious Grieg Prize for her outstanding performance of Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor. In addition to her success as a pianist, Matilde has also gained recognition as a composer. Her compositions have been performed by various orchestras and ensembles, including the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2016, she was commissioned by the Norwegian National Opera to compose a piece for their production of Mozart's opera "Don Giovanni." Matilde's performances have taken her to some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. She has collaborated with some of the world's leading conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Mariss Jansons. One of Matilde's most memorable performances was her debut at the Bergen International Festival in 2015. She performed a solo recital of works by Chopin, Liszt, and Grieg, which received critical acclaim. The following year, she returned to the festival to perform Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Matilde's talent has been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2014, she was awarded the prestigious Statoil Talent Prize, which is given to young Norwegian artists who show exceptional promise. She was also named a Rising Star by the European Concert Hall Organization in 2018, which led to a series of performances at some of Europe's most renowned concert halls. Despite her success, Matilde remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to study and refine her skills, and is always looking for new ways to express herself through music. Her passion and dedication have made her one of the most exciting young musicians in the classical music world today.
