Esaias Tewolde-Berhan is a renowned classical music artist known for his exceptional skills as a pianist and conductor. Born on January 1, 1980, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Esaias showed a keen interest in music from a young age. His parents, who were both music enthusiasts, encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Esaias began his musical journey by learning to play the piano at the age of six. He showed remarkable progress and was soon recognized as a prodigy. His parents enrolled him in the Yared Music School in Addis Ababa, where he received formal training in classical music. Esaias quickly became one of the school's top students and was awarded several prizes for his outstanding performances. In 1995, Esaias was awarded a scholarship to study at the prestigious Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Russia. He was only 15 years old at the time, and his parents were hesitant to let him go. However, they recognized the opportunity that this scholarship presented and decided to let him pursue his dream. Esaias spent the next six years in Moscow, where he received rigorous training in piano performance and conducting. He studied under some of the most renowned musicians in Russia, including Vladimir Tropp, Boris Berman, and Yuri Simonov. During his time in Moscow, Esaias won several awards and competitions, including the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in 1997. After completing his studies in Moscow, Esaias moved to Europe to further his career as a musician. He settled in Vienna, Austria, where he continued to perform and conduct with some of the most prestigious orchestras in Europe. He also began teaching at the Vienna Conservatory, where he shared his knowledge and expertise with young musicians. Esaias's career as a musician has been marked by several highlights and achievements. In 2005, he was invited to perform at the Salzburg Festival, one of the most prestigious classical music festivals in the world. His performance was widely acclaimed, and he was praised for his technical skill and musicality. In 2010, Esaias was appointed as the principal conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the most renowned orchestras in the world. He held this position for five years and was widely praised for his innovative and dynamic approach to conducting. During his tenure, he led the orchestra in several critically acclaimed performances, including a memorable performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Esaias has also been recognized for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 2014, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Austria, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a foreign national. He was also awarded the Order of the Star of Ethiopia in 2016, in recognition of his contributions to the development of classical music in Ethiopia.
