William Scharnberg was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Scharnberg showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Scharnberg's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires, at the age of six. Under her guidance, Scharnberg developed a deep understanding and appreciation for classical music. At the age of 12, Scharnberg made his debut performance at Carnegie Hall, where he received a standing ovation for his rendition of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14. This performance marked the beginning of Scharnberg's career as a concert pianist. Over the years, Scharnberg continued to hone his skills and develop his repertoire. He studied under some of the most renowned pianists of his time, including Martha Argerich, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and Maurizio Pollini. He also attended the Juilliard School of Music, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree. Scharnberg's talent and dedication to his craft did not go unnoticed. He won numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009. This competition is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world, and Scharnberg's win solidified his place as one of the most talented pianists of his generation.
