Role:ComposerBirth:1900Death:1963Genre:FilmOrchestralJack Beaver was a British composer who was born on February 15, 1900, in Leeds, England. He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. His father taught him to play the piano and the violin, and he showed a natural talent for music from a young age. Beaver studied at the Royal College of Music in London, where he was a student of Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst. He also studied composition with John Ireland and Arthur Bliss. During his time at the Royal College of Music, Beaver won several awards for his compositions, including the Cobbett Prize for Chamber Music. After completing his studies, Beaver worked as a freelance composer and arranger for the BBC. He composed music for radio dramas, documentaries, and feature films. He also wrote music for the theatre and ballet. One of Beaver's most famous works is the theme music for the BBC television series "Doctor Who." The theme, which was originally composed by Ron Grainer, was arranged by Beaver and has become one of the most recognizable pieces of music in television history. Beaver's other notable works include the scores for the films "The Dam Busters" and "The Colditz Story." He also composed music for the television series "The Adventures of Robin Hood" and "The Saint." Beaver was known for his ability to write music in a variety of styles. He was equally comfortable composing classical music, jazz, and popular music. His music was often characterized by its catchy melodies and lush orchestration. In addition to his work as a composer, Beaver was also a respected music educator. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Many of his students went on to have successful careers in music. Beaver died on February 16, 1963, at the age of 63. His legacy as a composer and educator continues to be celebrated today. His music has been performed by orchestras around the world, and his influence can be heard in the work of many contemporary composers.More....
