Nicholas Phillips is a renowned classical pianist and music educator. He was born in 1976 in the United States and grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a classical pianist. From a young age, Phillips showed a natural talent for music and began taking piano lessons at the age of five. Phillips attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School in New York City. During his time at Juilliard, Phillips studied with renowned pianist Jerome Lowenthal and won several awards, including the Gina Bachauer Piano Scholarship and the William Petschek Piano Scholarship. After completing his studies, Phillips began performing extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He has performed as a soloist with many major orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra. He has also given recitals at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Phillips is known for his passionate and expressive performances, as well as his deep understanding of the music he plays. He has a particular affinity for the music of Franz Liszt, and has recorded several albums of Liszt's music, including "Liszt: The Poet" and "Liszt: The Transcendental Etudes." In addition to his performing career, Phillips is also a dedicated music educator. He has taught at several universities, including the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He is currently a professor of piano at the University of Oregon, where he has been on the faculty since 2011.
