He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a composer. Larsen started playing the piano at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Larsen received his first piano lessons from his mother, and later studied with renowned pianists such as Nikolaj Znaider, Leif Ove Andsnes, and Murray Perahia. He also studied composition with Hans Abrahamsen and Bent Sørensen at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. Larsen made his debut as a soloist with the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 12, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor. He has since performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic.
