Agnete Hannibal Petri was a Danish classical music artist who was born on August 23, 1869, in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was the daughter of a prominent Danish composer, Niels Wilhelm Gade, and his wife, Johanne Sophie Gad. Petri grew up in a musical family and was exposed to music from a young age. Her father was her first music teacher, and she began playing the piano at the age of six. Petri's musical talent was evident from a young age, and she quickly became a skilled pianist. She studied music at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where she was a student of the renowned pianist and composer, Edmund Neupert. Petri graduated from the academy in 1890 with a diploma in piano performance. After completing her studies, Petri began her career as a concert pianist. She quickly gained a reputation as one of Denmark's most talented pianists, and she performed extensively throughout Europe. Petri was known for her virtuosic playing and her ability to interpret a wide range of musical styles. One of Petri's most significant performances took place in 1895 when she performed at the Paris World Exhibition. Her performance was highly acclaimed, and she received a gold medal for her playing. This performance helped to establish Petri as an international artist, and she continued to perform throughout Europe and the United States. In addition to her career as a concert pianist, Petri was also a respected music educator. She taught at the Royal Danish Academy of Music from 1901 to 1939, and many of her students went on to have successful careers in music. Petri was also a composer, and she wrote a number of works for piano, including several sonatas and a set of variations. Her compositions were well-received, and she was praised for her ability to blend traditional classical forms with modern harmonies. Throughout her career, Petri received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to music. In 1915, she was awarded the Order of the Dannebrog, one of Denmark's highest honors.
