Anthony Arnone is a renowned cellist and professor of music at the University of Iowa. Born in 1959 in New York City, Arnone grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist and his mother was a pianist, and they both encouraged him to pursue music from a young age. Arnone began playing the cello at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with several renowned cellists, including Leonard Rose and Harvey Shapiro, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree from the Juilliard School in 1981. After completing his studies, Arnone began his professional career as a cellist, performing with several orchestras and chamber music ensembles. He was a member of the New York Philharmonic for several years and also played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. In addition to his work as a performer, Arnone has also been a dedicated teacher throughout his career. He has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, before joining the faculty at the University of Iowa in 1997. At the University of Iowa, Arnone has become known for his innovative teaching methods and his commitment to helping his students develop their own unique musical voices. He has also been a prolific performer, both as a soloist and as a member of various chamber music ensembles. One of Arnone's most notable performances was his 1995 debut at Carnegie Hall, where he performed the complete solo cello suites of J.S. Bach. The performance was widely praised by critics and cemented Arnone's reputation as one of the foremost interpreters of Bach's music. Arnone has also been the recipient of several awards and honors throughout his career. In 1981, he won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, which led to several high-profile performances and recording opportunities. He has also been awarded the prestigious McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians and the Iowa Board of Regents Award for Faculty Excellence. Despite his many accomplishments, Arnone remains dedicated to his students and to the pursuit of musical excellence. He continues to perform and teach at the University of Iowa, inspiring a new generation of musicians to follow in his footsteps.
