James Tennant is a renowned cellist and music educator from New Zealand. He was born on August 22, 1959, in Auckland, New Zealand. Tennant grew up in a musical family, with his father being a professional violinist and his mother a pianist. He began playing the cello at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Tennant received his early musical education at the Auckland University School of Music, where he studied under the tutelage of Euan Harvey. He later went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, where he was a student of Ralph Kirshbaum.
