The Milwaukee Children's Choir is a classical music ensemble that has been delighting audiences with their beautiful voices since 1994. The choir was founded by Emily Holt Crocker, a renowned choral conductor and composer, who wanted to provide children in the Milwaukee area with the opportunity to experience the joy of singing in a choir. The choir started with just 50 members, but quickly grew in popularity and size. Today, the Milwaukee Children's Choir has over 400 members, ranging in age from 4 to 18 years old. The choir is divided into several different groups based on age and skill level, including the Prelude Choir, the Choristers, the Concert Choir, and the Chamber Choir. One of the main goals of the Milwaukee Children's Choir is to provide children with a high-quality music education. The choir's members receive training in vocal technique, music theory, and sight-reading, as well as opportunities to perform in a variety of settings. The choir also places a strong emphasis on community service, and members are encouraged to use their musical talents to give back to their community. Over the years, the Milwaukee Children's Choir has performed at a number of prestigious venues and events. One of their most notable performances was at the 2008 National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association, where they received a standing ovation for their rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner." The choir has also performed at the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra's Christmas Pops concert, the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the Wisconsin State Capitol. In addition to their live performances, the Milwaukee Children's Choir has also released several recordings. Their first album, "Sing On!," was released in 1998 and featured a mix of classical and contemporary choral music. The choir's most recent album, "A Joyful Sound," was released in 2019 and features holiday favorites like "Silent Night" and "Joy to the World." The Milwaukee Children's Choir has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2004, the choir was named the "Best Children's Choir" by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. They have also received awards from the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association and the American Choral Directors Association. Despite their many accomplishments, the Milwaukee Children's Choir remains committed to their mission of providing children with a love of music and a sense of community. The choir's members come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and the choir strives to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all. Through their music, the Milwaukee Children's Choir continues to inspire and uplift audiences of all ages.
