Role:EnsembleRosewind Duo is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by flutist Sarah Busman and guitarist Sam Dorsey. The duo has gained recognition for their unique blend of classical and contemporary music, as well as their engaging and dynamic performances. Sarah Busman, a native of Iowa, began playing the flute at the age of nine. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Sam Dorsey, originally from Texas, started playing the guitar at the age of 12. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas and a Master of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The two musicians met while studying at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music. They formed Rosewind Duo shortly after graduating and began performing together regularly. One of the duo's early highlights was their performance at the 2013 National Flute Association Convention in New Orleans. They were selected to perform in the convention's prestigious "New Music for Flute and Guitar" showcase, which featured some of the most innovative and exciting new works for the flute and guitar. Since then, Rosewind Duo has performed at numerous festivals and concert series across the United States, including the Texas Guitar Conference, the Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival, and the Guitar Foundation of America Convention. They have also been featured on several radio programs, including Wisconsin Public Radio's "The Midday" and Iowa Public Radio's "Performance Iowa." In addition to their live performances, Rosewind Duo has released two critically acclaimed albums. Their debut album, "New Beginnings," features works by contemporary composers such as Ian Clarke and Robert Beaser, as well as arrangements of traditional folk songs. Their second album, "Crossroads," showcases the duo's versatility with works by J.S. Bach, Astor Piazzolla, and others. The duo has received numerous awards and honors for their performances and recordings. In 2015, they were awarded first prize in the Open Division of the Texas Guitar Competition and Festival. They were also finalists in the 2016 Frances Walton Competition and the 2017 Great Lakes Chamber Music Competition. Rosewind Duo is known for their engaging and dynamic performances, which showcase their technical virtuosity and musical sensitivity. They are committed to expanding the repertoire for flute and guitar through collaborations with composers and other musicians. In addition to their work as performers, Busman and Dorsey are both dedicated educators. They have taught masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools across the country, and they are both on the faculty of the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.
