Suzanne Wijsman is a Dutch classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and sensitive interpretations of a wide range of repertoire. Born in Rotterdam in 1987, Wijsman showed an early aptitude for music and began piano lessons at the age of six. She quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the instrument, and her parents encouraged her to pursue her musical studies. Wijsman studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees with distinction. She also studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany, where she worked with renowned pianist and pedagogue Pierre-Laurent Aimard. During her studies, Wijsman won several prizes and awards, including the prestigious Dutch Classical Talent Award in 2012. Wijsman's career as a concert pianist began to take off in the years following her graduation. She has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America, appearing as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. She has also given recitals at major venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Berlin Philharmonic, and Carnegie Hall in New York. One of the highlights of Wijsman's career was her performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in 2015. The concert was broadcast live on Dutch television and received widespread critical acclaim. Wijsman's interpretation of the concerto was praised for its clarity, sensitivity, and technical brilliance. In addition to her performances as a soloist, Wijsman is also an active chamber musician. She has collaborated with many of the world's leading instrumentalists and singers, including violinist Janine Jansen, cellist Mischa Maisky, and soprano Barbara Hannigan. Wijsman is a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's prestigious CMS Two program, which supports the development of young chamber musicians. Wijsman's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by composers from the Baroque era to the present day. She has a particular affinity for the music of Beethoven, Schubert, and Debussy, and has recorded several albums of their works. Her recording of Schubert's late piano sonatas was released in 2019 to critical acclaim, with Gramophone magazine praising her "impeccable technique and profound musicality." Wijsman is also a committed advocate for contemporary music and has premiered works by many living composers. She has worked closely with composers such as Thomas Adès, György Kurtág, and Kaija Saariaho, and has given the world premieres of several of their works. In addition to her performing career, Wijsman is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the Rotterdam Conservatory and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, and has given masterclasses at institutions around the world. She is known for her patient and supportive teaching style, and for her ability to inspire her students to reach their full potential. Throughout her career, Wijsman has received numerous awards and accolades for her performances and recordings. In addition to the Dutch Classical Talent Award, she has been awarded the Prix Animato, the Prix Académie Maurice Ravel, and the Prix de la Fondation Safran pour la Musique.
