Ricky Martin is a Puerto Rican singer, actor, and author who has become one of the most successful Latin music artists of all time. Born on December 24, 1971, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Martin began his career in music at a young age, performing in local theater productions and television commercials. He was discovered by a talent agent at the age of 12 and was soon cast in the popular Puerto Rican soap opera "Alcanzar una Estrella." In 1984, Martin joined the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo, which had already been in existence for several years. He quickly became one of the group's most popular members, and his good looks and charisma helped to make Menudo one of the most successful Latin music acts of the 1980s. Martin remained with the group until 1989, when he left to pursue a solo career. Martin's first solo album, "Ricky Martin," was released in 1991 and was a moderate success in Latin America. However, it was his second album, "Me Amaras," released in 1993, that really put him on the map. The album featured the hit single "Que Dia Es Hoy," which became a number one hit in several Latin American countries.
