She was the daughter of a famous Czech composer, Vaclav Palivec, who was a professor at the Prague Conservatory. Jarmila grew up in a musical family and started playing the piano at a very young age. Her father recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Jarmila studied at the Prague Conservatory, where she received a rigorous training in piano performance. She was a gifted pianist and quickly gained recognition for her exceptional skills. In 1951, she won the first prize at the Prague Spring International Music Festival, which was a major achievement for a young musician. After completing her studies, Jarmila embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. She performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States, earning critical acclaim for her virtuosity and musicality. She was particularly known for her interpretations of the works of Czech composers, such as Bedrich Smetana, Antonin Dvorak, and Leos Janacek.
