Ensemble Adapter is a contemporary classical music ensemble based in Berlin, Germany. The ensemble was founded in 2004 by flutist Kristjana Helgadóttir, clarinetist Ingólfur Vilhjálmsson, and harpist Gunnhildur Einarsdóttir. The group has since expanded to include percussionist Matthias Engler and pianist Michael Rauter. The ensemble's name, Adapter, reflects their mission to adapt and transform traditional classical music into new and innovative forms. They are known for their experimental approach to music-making, often incorporating electronics, improvisation, and multimedia elements into their performances. Ensemble Adapter has performed at major festivals and venues throughout Europe and the United States, including the Berliner Festspiele, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, and the Lincoln Center Festival. In 2010, they were awarded the prestigious Kranichstein Music Prize at the Darmstadt International Summer Course for New Music.
