From a young age, Dohmen showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Dohmen's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons and later studied composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. During his studies, Dohmen was influenced by the works of classical composers such as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. After completing his studies, Dohmen began working as a freelance composer and pianist. He composed music for various ensembles, including orchestras, choirs, and chamber groups. His works were well-received, and he quickly gained a reputation as a talented composer. One of Dohmen's early works was his Piano Sonata No. 1, which he composed in 1990. The piece is characterized by its lyrical melodies and intricate harmonies. It was performed at various concerts and received critical acclaim. In 1992, Dohmen composed his first symphony, which was premiered by the Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra. The piece was well-received, and it established Dohmen as a composer of orchestral music. He went on to compose several more symphonies, including his Symphony No. 3, which was premiered by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 2001. Dohmen's music is known for its emotional depth and expressive melodies.
