David Griffiths is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on 22nd June 1969 in Melbourne, Australia. From a young age, Griffiths showed a keen interest in music and began playing the clarinet at the age of nine. He was a natural talent and quickly progressed, winning numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. Griffiths attended the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, where he studied under the guidance of renowned clarinetist, Peter Jenkin. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1990 and went on to complete a Master of Music degree at the University of Melbourne in 1992. After completing his studies, Griffiths began his professional career as a clarinetist, performing with various orchestras and ensembles in Australia and around the world. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile musician, capable of playing a wide range of musical styles. One of Griffiths' early highlights was his performance with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 1993. He was the soloist for Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, which was met with critical acclaim. This performance helped to establish Griffiths as one of Australia's leading clarinetists. In 1994, Griffiths joined the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) as their principal clarinetist. This was a significant milestone in his career, as the ACO is one of Australia's most prestigious and respected orchestras. Griffiths remained with the ACO for over a decade, during which time he performed in numerous concerts and recordings. One of the highlights of Griffiths' time with the ACO was his performance of Mozart's Clarinet Quintet in A major. This performance was recorded and released on CD, and it received widespread critical acclaim. The CD was nominated for an ARIA award, which is Australia's equivalent of the Grammy Awards. In addition to his work with the ACO, Griffiths has also performed with other orchestras and ensembles around the world. He has been a guest soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, among others. Griffiths is also a passionate chamber musician and has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles. He has been a member of the Omega Ensemble since 2005, and he has also performed with the Australian String Quartet, the Goldner String Quartet, and the Australian World Orchestra. In 2010, Griffiths was appointed as the Head of Woodwind at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. This was a significant achievement for Griffiths, as it allowed him to share his knowledge and experience with the next generation of musicians. He has since become a highly respected teacher and mentor, and many of his students have gone on to successful careers in music. Throughout his career, Griffiths has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of music. In 2003, he was awarded the prestigious Churchill Fellowship, which allowed him to travel to Europe and study with some of the world's leading clarinetists. He has also been awarded the Freedman Fellowship, the Australia Council Fellowship, and the APRA Award for Best Performance of an Australian Composition. In addition to his work as a performer and teacher, Griffiths is also a composer and arranger.
