TrioVanBeethoven is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005. The ensemble is made up of three members: pianist Stefan Mendl, violinist Marcus Trefny, and cellist Clemens Hagen. The trio is named after the famous composer Ludwig van Beethoven, whose music they frequently perform. Stefan Mendl, the pianist of the ensemble, was born in Germany in 1968. He began playing the piano at a young age and went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. He has won numerous awards for his piano playing, including the International Piano Competition in Senigallia, Italy, and the International Piano Competition in Porto, Portugal. Marcus Trefny, the violinist of the ensemble, was born in Germany in 1972. He began playing the violin at the age of six and went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. He has won several awards for his violin playing, including the International Violin Competition in Kloster Schöntal, Germany, and the International Violin Competition in Novosibirsk, Russia. Clemens Hagen, the cellist of the ensemble, was born in Austria in 1966. He began playing the cello at the age of six and went on to study at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg. The three members of TrioVanBeethoven first met in 1994 when they were all studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich.
