Role:EnsemblePeriod:BaroqueGenre:VocalMusica Fiorita is a Swiss early music ensemble that specializes in the performance of Baroque music. The group was founded in 1997 by the harpsichordist and conductor Daniela Dolci, who remains its artistic director to this day. Dolci was born in Palermo, Italy, in 1968. She began studying the piano at a young age and later took up the harpsichord, which became her primary instrument. She studied at the Conservatory of Palermo and later at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, where she earned a degree in harpsichord performance. After completing her studies, Dolci began performing as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe. She quickly gained a reputation as a skilled and expressive performer, and her performances were praised for their clarity, precision, and emotional depth. In 1997, Dolci founded Musica Fiorita with the goal of exploring the rich and varied repertoire of Baroque music. The ensemble quickly gained a following for its dynamic and engaging performances, which combined historical accuracy with a modern sensibility. Over the years, Musica Fiorita has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues and festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht. The group has also collaborated with many of the leading figures in the early music world, including the countertenor Andreas Scholl, the soprano Emma Kirkby, and the violinist Rachel Podger. One of Musica Fiorita's most notable achievements was its recording of Handel's opera "Ariodante" for the Deutsche Harmonia Mundi label. The recording, which was released in 2007, was widely praised for its vibrant and expressive performances, and it won several awards, including the Diapason d'Or and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. In addition to its performances and recordings, Musica Fiorita is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and it has developed a series of educational programs for schools and community groups. Today, Musica Fiorita is recognized as one of the leading early music ensembles in the world. Its performances are characterized by a deep understanding of the historical context of the music, as well as a commitment to bringing that music to life for modern audiences. With Daniela Dolci at the helm, the group continues to push the boundaries of early music performance, exploring new repertoire and new ways of engaging with audiences.More....
