Period:BaroqueGenre:ConcertoOrchestralLorraine Wood was born on May 12, 1985, in London, England. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Wood showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. She quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument and began taking lessons with her mother. As Wood grew older, she began to explore other instruments and eventually settled on the violin. She began taking lessons with a local teacher and quickly progressed, showing a natural talent for the instrument. By the age of 10, Wood had already won several local competitions and was beginning to gain recognition as a rising star in the classical music world. In 1997, Wood was accepted into the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey, England. The school is known for its rigorous training program and has produced some of the world's most renowned classical musicians. Wood thrived in this environment and quickly became one of the school's top students. During her time at the Yehudi Menuhin School, Wood had the opportunity to work with some of the world's most renowned musicians, including Maxim Vengerov, Pinchas Zukerman, and Itzhak Perlman. She also had the opportunity to perform in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Centre. After graduating from the Yehudi Menuhin School in 2003, Wood went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She continued to excel in her studies and was awarded several prestigious scholarships, including the Leverhulme Trust Scholarship and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Scholarship. In 2007, Wood graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree with first-class honors. She then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School in New York City. While at Juilliard, Wood had the opportunity to work with some of the world's most renowned musicians, including Itzhak Perlman, Glenn Dicterow, and David Chan. After graduating from Juilliard in 2009, Wood began to establish herself as a soloist and chamber musician. She quickly gained a reputation for her virtuosic playing and her ability to connect with audiences. She has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Wood has also been recognized for her achievements in the classical music world. In 2010, she was awarded the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, which is awarded to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise. She was also a finalist in the 2011 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis and the 2012 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. In addition to her solo work, Wood is also an accomplished chamber musician. She has performed with some of the world's most renowned ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet, the Guarneri Quartet, and the Tokyo String Quartet. She is also a founding member of the London-based Trio Isimsiz, which has gained critical acclaim for its performances of classical and contemporary music.
