Artist Info
Role:ComposerBirth:1887Death:1955Oskar Lindberg was a Swedish composer and pianist who was born on February 23, 1887, in Skövde, Sweden. He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Lindberg began playing the piano at a young age and showed great talent. He studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he was a student of Ernst Ellberg and later studied with Wilhelm Stenhammar. Lindberg's early compositions were influenced by the Romantic style of music, but he later developed his own unique style. He was known for his use of Swedish folk music in his compositions, which gave his music a distinct national character. Lindberg's music was also influenced by the French impressionist composers, such as Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. One of Lindberg's most famous works is his Piano Concerto No. 2, which he composed in 1923. The concerto is known for its virtuosic piano writing and its use of Swedish folk melodies. The concerto was premiered by the Swedish pianist Hilding Hallnäs and was well-received by audiences and critics alike. Lindberg also composed a number of choral works, including his popular "Aftonen" (Evening), which is a setting of a poem by the Swedish poet Vilhelm Ekelund. The piece is known for its beautiful harmonies and its use of Swedish folk melodies. In addition to his compositions, Lindberg was also a respected pianist. He performed extensively throughout Sweden and Europe, and was known for his interpretations of the music of Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt. Lindberg's career was cut short by his untimely death in 1955 at the age of 68. However, his music continues to be performed and admired by musicians and audiences around the world. His use of Swedish folk music in his compositions has had a lasting impact on Swedish classical music, and his Piano Concerto No. 2 remains one of the most popular works in the Swedish classical repertoire.More....
