He was the son of a wealthy merchant and received his early education in his hometown. It is believed that he received his musical training from Heinrich Isaac, a renowned composer of the time, who was working in Vienna at the time. Arnold von Bruck began his career as a singer in the court chapel of Emperor Maximilian I in Vienna. He later moved to Innsbruck, where he served as the court composer for Archduke Ferdinand II of Austria. During his time in Innsbruck, he composed a number of works for the court, including masses, motets, and chansons. In 1527, Arnold von Bruck moved to Rome, where he became a member of the papal choir. He remained in Rome for several years, during which time he composed a number of works for the church, including masses, motets, and hymns. He also became acquainted with many of the leading composers of the time, including Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Orlando di Lasso. In 1539, Arnold von Bruck returned to Austria, where he became the court composer for Ferdinand I. He remained in this position for the rest of his life, composing a number of works for the court, including masses, motets, and secular songs. He also served as the director of music for the court, overseeing the performance of music at court events and ceremonies. Arnold von Bruck's music is characterized by its rich harmonies and complex polyphony. He was particularly skilled at writing for multiple voices, and his works often feature intricate counterpoint and imitative textures. His music was highly regarded during his lifetime, and he was considered one of the leading composers of his time. Some of Arnold von Bruck's most notable works include his Missa Et ecce terrae motus, which was composed in response to the earthquake that struck Lisbon in 1531. Another notable work is his Missa Malheur me bat, which is based on a chanson by Josquin des Prez. This mass is notable for its use of imitation and its intricate polyphony.
