He was born on December 28, 1977, in New York City, USA. From a young age, Treuting showed a keen interest in music, and he began playing the drums at the age of nine. He was inspired by his father, who was a jazz drummer, and he started taking lessons from him. Treuting attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he studied percussion and composition. He later went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music. During his time at Yale, Treuting was a member of the renowned percussion quartet, So Percussion, which he co-founded with three other musicians. So Percussion quickly gained recognition for their innovative and experimental approach to percussion music. They performed at major venues and festivals around the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Barbican Centre in London. They also collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Steve Reich, Bryce Dessner, and David Lang. Treuting's compositions have been performed by numerous ensembles, including the Kronos Quartet, the Bang on a Can All-Stars, and the American Composers Orchestra. He has also collaborated with a variety of artists, including the choreographer Susan Marshall and the visual artist Glenn Kotche. One of Treuting's most notable works is his composition, "Amid the Noise," which was commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
