Artist Info
Ensemble Fratres is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2006 in the Netherlands. The ensemble is known for its unique sound and innovative approach to classical music. The group consists of four main members: Marc Daniel van Biemen (violin), Jeroen Woudstra (viola), Joachim Eijlander (cello), and Martijn Willers (piano). The founding members of Ensemble Fratres met while studying at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and decided to form a group. The name "Fratres" is Latin for "brothers," which reflects the close bond between the members of the ensemble. Ensemble Fratres has performed at numerous prestigious venues and festivals throughout Europe, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall in London, and the Festival de Musique de Menton in France. The group has also collaborated with renowned musicians such as cellist Pieter Wispelwey and pianist Ronald Brautigam. One of the highlights of Ensemble Fratres' career was their performance at the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam in 2008. The group performed a program of works by Mozart, Schumann, and Brahms to critical acclaim. The following year, they were invited to perform at the Festival de Musique de Menton, where they received a standing ovation for their performance of Schubert's "Trout" Quintet. Ensemble Fratres has also been recognized for their recordings. In 2010, they released their debut album, "Fratres," which featured works by Schubert, Brahms, and Dvorak. The album received widespread praise and was nominated for a Dutch Classical Music Award. In addition to their performances and recordings, Ensemble Fratres is also committed to education and outreach. The group regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and they have worked with organizations such as the Dutch National Youth Orchestra and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Ensemble Fratres' unique sound and innovative approach to classical music have earned them a loyal following and critical acclaim. Their performances are characterized by a deep musical understanding and a sense of spontaneity and improvisation. The group's commitment to education and outreach ensures that their legacy will continue to inspire future generations of musicians.More....
