The ensemble was founded in 2005 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for the music of Antonio Vivaldi and the Baroque period. The founding members of the ensemble were violinists Ryo Terakado and Mayumi Hirasaki, violist Shunske Sato, cellist Hidemi Suzuki, and harpsichordist Masato Suzuki. The ensemble's main focus is on the music of Antonio Vivaldi, a Baroque composer known for his virtuosic violin concertos and operas. The Tokyo Vivaldi Ensemble has gained a reputation for their lively and energetic performances of Vivaldi's music, which often feature improvisation and ornamentation. The ensemble has performed at major concert halls and festivals throughout Japan and around the world. Hidemi Suzuki, the ensemble's cellist, is a well-known Baroque cellist who has performed with the Bach Collegium Japan and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. Masato Suzuki, the ensemble's harpsichordist, is a highly regarded keyboard player who has performed with many of the world's leading Baroque ensembles. The Tokyo Vivaldi Ensemble has received numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2008, they were awarded the Grand Prix du Disque by the Académie Charles Cros for their recording of Vivaldi's "La Stravaganza." They have also been nominated for several other awards, including the Gramophone Award and the International Classical Music Award.
