One of Bowden's most notable works is his 2014 composition "Heartland," which was commissioned by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. The piece is inspired by the Welsh landscape and explores the relationship between humans and nature. It features a large orchestra, including a percussion section that includes a typewriter and a bicycle wheel. Another notable work by Bowden is his 2017 composition "Sudden Light," which was commissioned by the London Symphony Orchestra. The piece is inspired by the poem of the same name by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and explores themes of memory and loss. It features a solo violin and a large orchestra, including a section of tuned wine glasses. Bowden has also composed several works for chamber ensembles, including his 2012 piece "Parable," which was commissioned by the London Sinfonietta.
