Role:PerformerJulie Ladouceur is a Canadian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and sensitive interpretations of a wide range of repertoire. Born in Montreal in 1979, Ladouceur began playing the piano at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied with several renowned teachers in Canada and Europe, including Marc Durand, André Laplante, and Jean-Paul Sévilla. Ladouceur's early career was marked by a series of impressive accomplishments. In 1995, she won first prize in the Canadian Music Competition, and in 1997, she was awarded the prestigious Prix d'Europe, which allowed her to study in Paris with renowned pianist and pedagogue Dominique Merlet. She also won top prizes at the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition and the International Stepping Stone Competition in Quebec. Ladouceur's international career began to take off in the early 2000s, when she won first prize at the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona, Spain. This victory led to numerous concert engagements throughout Europe and Asia, including performances with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and the Orchestre National de Lorraine in France. In addition to her solo career, Ladouceur is also an accomplished chamber musician, having collaborated with such artists as cellist Stéphane Tétreault and violinist Jonathan Crow. She has performed at major festivals around the world, including the Festival de Lanaudière in Quebec, the Festival de Musique de Menton in France, and the Hong Kong Arts Festival. Ladouceur's repertoire is wide-ranging, encompassing works from the Baroque era to the present day. She has a particular affinity for the music of Frédéric Chopin, and has recorded several albums of his works, including a critically acclaimed recording of his complete Nocturnes. She has also recorded works by Beethoven, Schumann, Liszt, and Debussy, among others. Throughout her career, Ladouceur has been recognized for her exceptional talent and artistry. In addition to her early competition wins, she has received numerous awards and honors, including the Virginia Parker Prize from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Sylva Gelber Foundation Award, and the Prix Opus for Best Concert of the Year in Quebec. She has also been a finalist for the prestigious Prix Goyer, which recognizes outstanding Canadian classical musicians. Ladouceur is also a dedicated teacher, and has taught at several institutions in Canada and Europe, including the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and the École normale de musique de Paris. She is currently on the faculty of the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal. In addition to her performing and teaching activities, Ladouceur is also a passionate advocate for the arts and for music education. She has served on the board of directors of several organizations, including the Conseil québécois de la musique and the Canadian Music Competition, and has been involved in numerous outreach and educational initiatives.
