2Cellos is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2011 by two Croatian cellists, Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser. The duo gained international recognition for their unique style of playing the cello, which combines classical music with rock and pop elements. Luka Šulić was born on August 25, 1987, in Maribor, Slovenia. He began playing the cello at the age of five and later studied at the Academy of Music in Zagreb, Croatia. Stjepan Hauser was born on June 15, 1986, in Pula, Croatia. He also started playing the cello at a young age and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. The two cellists met while studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London and became friends. They later decided to form a duo and started performing together. Their first performance was at the Arena Zagreb in Croatia in 2011, where they played a cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal." The video of their performance went viral on YouTube, and they quickly gained a large following. 2Cellos released their debut album, "2Cellos," in 2011, which included covers of popular songs such as "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N' Roses and "With or Without You" by U2. The album was a commercial success and reached the top of the charts in several countries. The duo continued to release albums and perform around the world. In 2013, they released their second album, "In2ition," which featured collaborations with artists such as Elton John, Steve Vai, and Lang Lang.
