Born in New York City, Rotholz grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a very young age. Her father was a violinist and her mother was a pianist, and they both encouraged her to pursue her passion for music. Rotholz began playing the flute at the age of nine and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied with some of the best teachers in the country, including Julius Baker, Samuel Baron, and Thomas Nyfenger. She also attended the Juilliard School of Music, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree. After completing her studies, Rotholz began her professional career as a flutist. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile musician, and she was soon in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. She has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. One of the highlights of Rotholz's career was her performance at the White House for President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton. She was also a featured soloist at the Kennedy Center Honors, where she performed for honorees such as Paul McCartney and Aretha Franklin. Rotholz has also been recognized for her contributions to the world of music. She has won numerous awards and honors, including the National Flute Association's Lifetime Achievement Award and the New York Flute Club's Distinguished Service Award. She has also been a guest artist and faculty member at some of the most prestigious music schools in the country, including the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Yale School of Music. In addition to her work as a performer, Rotholz is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught at the Mannes College of Music, the New England Conservatory of Music, and the University of Connecticut. She is currently on the faculty of the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music. Rotholz is also an advocate for new music and has commissioned and premiered works by some of the most exciting composers of our time. She has worked with composers such as John Corigliano, Joan Tower, and Paul Moravec, and has premiered works at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
