Timothy Weiss is a renowned conductor and music educator who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born in 1965 in the United States, Weiss grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. He began playing the piano at the age of five and later learned to play the trumpet and French horn. Weiss attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in trumpet performance. He later earned a Master of Music degree in conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. During his time at the University of Cincinnati, Weiss studied under the renowned conductor and educator, Mark Gibson. After completing his studies, Weiss began his career as a conductor, working with various orchestras and ensembles across the United States. He served as the music director of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra in Indiana from 1993 to 1998 and the Canton Symphony Orchestra in Ohio from 1998 to 2001. He also worked as the associate conductor of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Ohio from 1998 to 2003. In 2003, Weiss was appointed as the director of orchestral studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he currently serves as a professor of conducting. In this role, he has mentored and trained numerous young conductors who have gone on to successful careers in the music industry. Throughout his career, Weiss has conducted numerous orchestras and ensembles, including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Louisville Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. He has also conducted at various music festivals, including the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, the Oregon Bach Festival, and the Spoleto Festival USA. One of the highlights of Weiss's career was his appointment as the music director of the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus in California in 2015. In this role, he has led the orchestra in numerous performances of classical and contemporary works, including the world premiere of a new composition by composer Lei Liang. Weiss has also received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 2002, he was awarded the prestigious Herbert von Karajan Conducting Fellowship by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also been a recipient of the Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview, the Seiji Ozawa Conducting Fellowship at Tanglewood, and the American Symphony Orchestra League Conducting Fellowship. In addition to his work as a conductor, Weiss is also a respected music educator. He has written articles and given lectures on conducting and music education, and has served as a guest conductor and clinician at various universities and music schools across the United States.
