He received his formal music education at the Paris Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned clarinetist Auguste Périer. Lancelot's talent and dedication to his craft quickly became evident, and he began to make a name for himself in the classical music world. In 1942, he was appointed as the principal clarinetist of the Paris Opera Orchestra, a position he held for over 30 years. During his tenure with the orchestra, Lancelot performed in countless operas and ballets, working with some of the most celebrated conductors and musicians of his time. He performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, earning critical acclaim for his virtuosic playing and expressive interpretations. Some of his most notable performances include his 1955 debut at New York's Carnegie Hall, where he performed Mozart's Clarinet Concerto with the New York Philharmonic, and his 1960 performance of Debussy's Premiere Rhapsodie at the Edinburgh Festival. He served as a professor of clarinet at the Paris Conservatory from 1952 to 1985, and his students included many of the world's leading clarinetists.
