Walter Scharf was a renowned American composer, arranger, and conductor who made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on August 1, 1910, in New York City, Scharf showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He later studied at the Juilliard School of Music, where he honed his skills in composition and orchestration. Scharf's career in music began in the 1930s when he started working as a staff arranger for various radio stations in New York. He quickly gained a reputation for his exceptional skills in arranging and orchestrating music, and soon began working with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, and Bing Crosby. In the 1940s, Scharf moved to Hollywood, where he began working as a composer for film and television. He quickly established himself as one of the most sought-after composers in the industry, and his music was featured in numerous films and television shows. Some of his most notable works include the scores for the films "Funny Girl," "The Great White Hope," and "The Secret of NIMH."
