Marius Neset is a Norwegian saxophonist and composer who has gained international recognition for his innovative and dynamic approach to jazz and classical music. Born on January 4, 1985, in Os, Norway, Neset grew up in a musical family and began playing the saxophone at the age of seven. He was inspired by the music of John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and Michael Brecker, and began performing in local jazz clubs and festivals as a teenager. Neset studied at the Trondheim Conservatory of Music, where he was mentored by saxophonist and composer John Pål Inderberg. He also studied with jazz legends such as Dave Liebman, Joshua Redman, and Django Bates. Neset's early compositions were heavily influenced by the jazz tradition, but he soon began to incorporate elements of classical music, folk music, and world music into his work. Neset's breakthrough came in 2011 with the release of his debut album, "Golden Xplosion," which was praised for its virtuosic saxophone playing and adventurous compositions. The album featured Neset's regular band, which included pianist Ivo Neame, bassist Jasper Høiby, and drummer Anton Eger. Neset's music was characterized by complex rhythms, intricate melodies, and a sense of playfulness and experimentation. Neset's second album, "Birds," was released in 2013 and was inspired by the natural world.
