Kvindelige Studenters Sangforening, also known as KSS, is a classical music choir based in Oslo, Norway. The choir was founded in 1898 by a group of female students from the University of Oslo who shared a passion for singing. At the time, it was unusual for women to participate in public performances, but the members of KSS were determined to break down barriers and showcase their talents. In the early years, KSS focused on performing traditional Norwegian folk songs and choral music. The choir quickly gained a reputation for their beautiful harmonies and powerful performances, and they were soon invited to perform at major events throughout Norway. In 1905, KSS was invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the Norwegian Parliament, which was a significant honor for the young choir. Over the years, KSS continued to grow and evolve. They expanded their repertoire to include classical music from around the world, and they began to collaborate with other choirs and orchestras. In 1928, KSS performed at the International Eisteddfod in Wales, where they won first prize in the female choir category. This was a major achievement for the choir, and it helped to establish their reputation as one of the top choirs in Europe. Throughout the 20th century, KSS continued to perform at major events and festivals around the world. They performed at the World Expo in Brussels in 1958, and they were invited to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo in 1994. In 2008, KSS celebrated their 110th anniversary with a special concert at the Oslo Opera House, which was attended by thousands of fans and supporters. One of the highlights of KSS's career was their performance at the 2011 World Choir Games in Cincinnati, Ohio. The choir competed against choirs from around the world and won gold medals in both the female choir and folklore categories. This was a major achievement for KSS, and it helped to cement their reputation as one of the top choirs in the world. In addition to their performances, KSS has also released several albums over the years. Their most recent album, "Nordic Voices," was released in 2019 and features a collection of traditional Nordic folk songs and choral music. Today, KSS is still going strong, with over 60 members ranging in age from 20 to 70. The choir is led by conductor Marit Tøndel Bodsberg, who has been with the choir since 2008. KSS continues to perform at major events and festivals around the world, and they remain committed to showcasing the beauty and power of choral music.
