La Fontaine is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is named after the famous French fable writer Jean de La Fontaine, who was known for his ability to tell stories through his writing. The founding members of La Fontaine were all graduates of some of the most prestigious music schools in Europe, including the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. They were all accomplished musicians in their own right, having won numerous awards and competitions before coming together to form the ensemble. The main members of La Fontaine are violinist Marie-Claire, cellist Jean-Pierre, and pianist Sophie. Marie-Claire is a virtuoso violinist who has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic. Jean-Pierre is a highly skilled cellist who has won numerous awards for his solo performances, and Sophie is a talented pianist who has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe. Since its founding, La Fontaine has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Philharmonie de Paris, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. The ensemble has also performed at numerous music festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Lucerne Festival. One of the highlights of La Fontaine's career was their performance at the 2010 BBC Proms, where they performed Beethoven's Triple Concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The performance was widely praised by critics, with The Guardian describing it as "a thrilling and deeply moving performance that showcased the ensemble's exceptional musicianship and technical skill." La Fontaine has also won numerous awards for their performances, including the prestigious Echo Klassik Award in 2012 for their recording of Brahms' Piano Trios. The ensemble has also been nominated for several other awards, including the Gramophone Award and the International Classical Music Award. In addition to their performances and recordings, La Fontaine is also committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience. The ensemble regularly performs in schools and community centers, and they have also collaborated with other artists and musicians from different genres to create new and innovative works. Overall, La Fontaine is a highly respected and accomplished classical music ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the world of chamber music. With their exceptional musicianship, technical skill, and commitment to promoting classical music, they are sure to continue to inspire and delight audiences for many years to come.
