Leslie Stifelman is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. She was born on August 22, 1959, in New York City, USA. From a young age, Stifelman showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Stifelman attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied piano and composition. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1981 and went on to pursue a Master of Music degree in piano performance from the same institution. During her time at Juilliard, Stifelman was a student of renowned pianist and teacher Adele Marcus. After completing her studies, Stifelman began her career as a pianist and conductor. She quickly gained recognition for her talent and was invited to perform at major venues around the world. Some of her most notable performances include her debut at Carnegie Hall in 1985, where she performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the New York Youth Symphony. She also performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Royal Albert Hall in London. In addition to her performances as a pianist, Stifelman has also made a name for herself as a conductor. She has conducted numerous orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has also conducted several operas, including Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni. Stifelman's talent as a conductor was recognized in 1995 when she was appointed the first female conductor of the Broadway musical Chicago. She went on to conduct several other Broadway productions, including A Chorus Line, The Producers, and Hairspray. She has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1997, she was awarded the Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theater. In 2002, she received the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Orchestrations for the Broadway production of Hairspray. She was also nominated for a Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for the same production. In addition to her work as a performer and conductor, Stifelman is also a dedicated music educator. She has taught at several institutions, including the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Tanglewood Music Center. She has also served as the music director of the New York City Ballet's School of American Ballet.
