From a young age, Amalong showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Amalong's parents recognized his potential and enrolled him in the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division when he was just six years old. He studied under the renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky and quickly became one of her star pupils. Throughout his childhood and teenage years, Amalong won numerous competitions and awards, including the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs. He also performed as a soloist with several major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. After graduating from high school, Amalong attended the Juilliard School for his undergraduate degree, where he continued to study with Kaplinsky. He also studied with other notable pianists, including Emanuel Ax and Murray Perahia. During his time at Juilliard, Amalong continued to win awards and accolades, including the William Petschek Piano Debut Award and the Arthur Rubinstein Prize. He also performed in several major venues, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. After graduating from Juilliard, Amalong went on to earn his master's degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. There, he studied with renowned pianist Gary Graffman and continued to hone his skills as a performer and musician.
