Born on September 22, 1984, in Boulder, Colorado, Ridenour grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Rich Ridenour, was a pianist and his mother, Susan Ridenour, was a violinist. His grandfather, Leon Ridenour, was a trumpet player and a member of the United States Marine Band. Ridenour began playing the piano at the age of five and the trumpet at the age of nine. He attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with Mark Gould, the former principal trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He also studied piano with Yoheved Kaplinsky and Jerome Lowenthal. In 2006, Ridenour won the International Trumpet Guild solo competition, which helped launch his career as a soloist. He has since performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
