Jorie Garrigue was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Jorie showed a natural talent for music and began taking piano lessons at the age of four. As Jorie grew older, she became more interested in classical music and began studying the violin. She quickly excelled in her studies and began performing in local concerts and competitions. At the age of 12, Jorie was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, where she continued her studies in violin performance. During her time at Juilliard, Jorie had the opportunity to study with some of the most renowned violinists in the world, including Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman. She also had the opportunity to perform in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. After graduating from Juilliard, Jorie began her professional career as a soloist and chamber musician. She quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented young violinists in the world and began receiving invitations to perform with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world. One of Jorie's most memorable performances was with the New York Philharmonic in 2008. She performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto under the baton of conductor Lorin Maazel. The performance was met with critical acclaim, with The New York Times calling Jorie's playing "virtuosic and deeply expressive." In addition to her solo performances, Jorie also became a sought-after chamber musician. She formed a string quartet with three other Juilliard graduates and began performing regularly in concert halls around the world. The quartet quickly gained a reputation for their innovative programming and dynamic performances. In 2012, Jorie was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. The award recognizes young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise for a career in classical music. Jorie was the first violinist to receive the award in over a decade. In 2015, Jorie released her debut solo album, featuring works by Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. The album was met with critical acclaim, with The Strad calling Jorie's playing "sensitive and nuanced." Throughout her career, Jorie has been committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience. She has given numerous masterclasses and workshops for young musicians and has worked with organizations such as the Sphinx Organization, which promotes diversity in classical music. Today, Jorie continues to perform as a soloist and chamber musician, and is also a dedicated teacher. She currently serves on the faculty of the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music. Her passion for music and dedication to her craft have made her one of the most respected and admired musicians of her generation.
