Born on August 26, 1971, in Rouen, France, Leleux showed an early interest in music and began playing the oboe at the age of eight. He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris with Maurice Bourgue and graduated with first prizes in oboe and chamber music. Leleux's career as a soloist began in 1994 when he won the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Germany.
