Jerry Jennings was born on May 15, 1965, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a jazz pianist and his mother a classical violinist. From a young age, Jennings was exposed to a wide variety of music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Jennings attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied piano performance under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Vladimir Horowitz. During his time at Juilliard, Jennings won numerous awards and competitions, including the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1985. After graduating from Juilliard, Jennings began his professional career as a concert pianist, performing extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and dynamic pianists of his generation, known for his virtuosic technique and passionate interpretations of classical repertoire. One of the highlights of Jennings' career came in 1992, when he was invited to perform at the White House for President George H.W. Bush and his guests. Jennings played a program of classical works, including pieces by Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt, to great acclaim. In addition to his solo career, Jennings was also a sought-after chamber musician, collaborating with some of the world's most renowned instrumentalists and vocalists. He frequently performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic, among others. Jennings' recordings were also highly acclaimed, with his 1998 album of Chopin's complete Nocturnes receiving particular praise. The album was hailed as a landmark recording of the repertoire, with Jennings' sensitive and nuanced interpretations earning him widespread critical acclaim. Throughout his career, Jennings was the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Gilmore Artist Award, and the National Medal of Arts. He was also a dedicated teacher, serving on the faculty of the Juilliard School and mentoring countless young pianists. Tragically, Jennings' career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2005. Despite undergoing extensive treatment, he passed away on June 12, 2007, at the age of 42. Jennings' legacy as a pianist and musician continues to inspire and influence generations of musicians. His recordings and performances remain a testament to his extraordinary talent and dedication to the art of classical music.More....
