Todd Levy is a renowned clarinetist and music educator who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born in 1963 in New York City, Levy grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a classical pianist, which gave him a unique perspective on music. Levy began playing the clarinet at the age of 10 and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with some of the best clarinetists in the world, including David Weber, Kalmen Opperman, and Richard Stoltzman. Levy attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree. After completing his studies, Levy began his professional career as a clarinetist. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented musician and was invited to perform with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world. In 1988, he was appointed principal clarinetist of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for over 20 years. During his time with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Levy became known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the best in the music he performed. He was also a dedicated music educator and worked with young musicians in the Milwaukee area to help them develop their skills. In addition to his work with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Levy has performed with many other orchestras and ensembles around the world. He has been a guest soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and many others. Levy has also been recognized for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 1998, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise. He has also been a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Solo Recitalist Grant and the Wisconsin Arts Board Fellowship. One of the highlights of Levy's career was his performance at the 2002 Grammy Awards ceremony. He was invited to perform with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and their performance of Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait" was broadcast live to millions of viewers around the world. Levy is also a dedicated music educator and has taught at many prestigious institutions around the world. He has been a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the University of Michigan, and the Interlochen Arts Academy. He has also given masterclasses and workshops at many other institutions, including the Juilliard School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. In addition to his work as a performer and educator, Levy is also a composer and arranger. He has written several pieces for clarinet and orchestra, as well as numerous arrangements of classical works for clarinet and other instruments.
